About the show

Perhaps you’ve seen them floating over a Russian village? Or perhaps you’ve seen her toppling forward, arms full of wildflowers, as he arches above her head and steals an airborne kiss.

Partners in life and on canvas, Marc and Bella Chagall are immortalised as the picture of romance. But whilst on canvas they flew, in life, they walked through some of the most devastating times in history.

Daniel Jamieson’s The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk traces this young couple as they navigate the Pogroms, the Russian Revolution, and each other.

Emma Rice’s sumptuous and physical production is drawn in a theatrical language as fluid as Chagall’s paintings and woven throughout with music and dance inspired by Russian Jewish tradition.

We’re taking (another) leap!

After the heady success of the live broadcasts of Romantics Anonymous, Wise Children have teamed up with their friends at Kneehigh and Bristol Old Vic to bring you Kneehigh's award-winning production of The Flying Lovers Of Vitebsk directed by Emma Rice, LIVE ON STAGE at the Bristol Old Vic!

Last week, Wise Children TV broadcast this visually stunning, intimate and emotional production LIVE – each night was a truly one-off experience! The company isolated together in one large bubble so that the show could be performed in its original form. With no social distancing, you can expect something as magical as one of Marc Chagall’s paintings, with singing, dancing and perhaps even a large blue fish!

Now you can watch the show on demand!

Although we’re no longer live, the show is now available to watch ON DEMAND from the comfort of your own living room. From Friday 11th – Friday 18th  December watch the show at whatever moment suits you best!

Just like theatre used to be - almost!

We know a live-streamed show isn't the same as actually going to the theatre and we also understand that watching things online can be hard work.  We've done everything we can to make sure our broadcasts are of the highest quality, that they’re as easy to watch as possible, and that buying a ticket is simple. We broadcast in full High Definition (as long as your internet connection can cope with it) and we also broadcast in Stereo.

We really want you to join us!

And don't worry - if you need a closed-captioned or audio described version of the show those are available too.
